His Sweater

Sitting across from my grandmother, his sweater covers her shoulders
Reminiscing of old times, as my grandpa would just hold her
All it took was just a look into his eyes of crystal blue
And from then on, together, she knew they would make it through
Gazing off laughing, she said she couldn't keep him off her
Seeing her eyes fill up with tears, then try and cover them up with laughter
Seven children, and fifty-three years later
I have never seen love look any greater
She has been so strong and telling him to let go
But he keeps squeezing her hand, as their love continues to grow
She tells him to go so he can become better
And that she will be fine, with him still warming her with his sweater

grandpa george

Sitting outside my grandparents trailer home, mom, dad, shawna, angi, david, auntee di di, auntee mary, auntee sharon, auntee gail, uncle steve, jay jay, peggy, jeanenne, grandma, and of course, grandpa george, are all helping put the pieces together. i really have been enjoying myself. most of my family lives on the east coast so it's been years since i have seen them, and just being around them these past three days has been such a pain, and such a blessing. my family, like many other families, are so dysfunctional yet i can't get enough. these people have brought so many tears, ones of laughter, joy, and sadness. even at this exact moment, we are all just sitting around laughing. but the reason that we are all together is to be here for my grandpa's passing. i don't think i have seen this much love in one family. grandpa george and grandma ronnie made and raised 7 kids together, and lasted 52 years together as husband and wife. grandma was telling me how she looked into his blue eyes and just fell in love with him, and how she couldn't keep him off her. seeing the look in her eyes as she leaves the room he is in, giving him soft kisses on his head and cheeks as he lies there comatose, not knowing if it's going to be her last time with him here. this has been so hard for me, but being here with my whole family has brought so much comfort and just being here these past couple days, i am learning so much
